The quality management standard ISO 9001 is the most widely used and most important standard in quality management (QM), both nationally and internationally. Certification to ISO 9001 is possible for companies and organizations of all sizes and in all sectors and forms the basis for the continuous improvement process of the company's internal quality management system (QMS).

ISO 9001 specifies the minimum requirements for a quality management system to be implemented by companies to meet customer requirements and other product and service quality requirements. With the introduction of a QM system, for example:

• the transparency of operational processes can be increased
• a higher customer satisfaction can be achieved
• the error rate and thus costs can be reduced

An essential principle of ISO 9001 is the process orientation. A process-oriented QM system accompanies all essential operational processes and puts them to the test. As a result, even with good organizations optimization opportunities can be revealed.
